Conquer Risk and Achieve Supply Chain Transparency
Although companies recognize the importance of supply chain visibility, few report achieving it. Without a clear view, managing risk, achieving regulatory compliance, and satisfying consumer demand for transparency is challenging, if not impossible. Without an effective risk management program, businesses face devastating food quality and safety issues that could harm consumers and permanently damage brand reputation and the bottom line.
Throughout the supply chain, risk assessment mechanisms are essential to evaluate raw materials, suppliers, company processes, consumer use, and more. However, identifying, managing, and applying risk assessment outcomes is increasingly complicated. Barriers prevent accurate and complete risk assessments—namely, insufficient risk intelligence. Risk mitigation is critical for effective supply chain management and ensuring the safety of sourced ingredients and products produced. It's also an integral part of food safety management systems to comply with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). GFSI benchmarked certification programs and FSMA regulations (including Preventive Controls and Foreign Supplier Verification rules) require a sufficient supplier approval and monitoring program to verify the safety and authenticity of materials used in production. Material and supplier risk assessments form the basis of critical approval, monitoring, and verification activities, to protect the food supply chain.
