The SQF Code Edition 9 goes into effect May 24, 2021. The new edition aligns with current Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarking requirements to help food and dietary supplements producers meet and exceed all industry, customer, and regulatory requirements. With Edition 9, the standard’s intent and many requirements are the same, but there are some significant changes for businesses, specifically around audits.
If your facility isn’t yet fully prepared for SQF Edition 9, you’re not alone. According to SQF, only 3% of poll respondents were ready for the changes as of January 2021. However, as audits for Edition 9 loom, businesses should conduct a gap analysis and update processes to align with the new code. And companies that have enacted updates should conduct formal internal audits to verify compliance
