    Friday Food News: Campbell’s Egg-Less Mayo, FReSH, and Upcoming Webinars

    From the Campbell Soup Company announcing its latest venture, to a couple of upcoming webinars taking place soon, below are this week’s interesting reads:

    Campbell’s New Egg-Free Mayo

    Earlier this month, Campbell Soup Co. launched an egg-free, mayo-styled spread under its Bolthouse Farms brand in the U.S. The product, called Maio, is a yogurt-based product which caters to those more health conscious about their condiments. 

    Despite what many believe, the tomato-based condiment we’ve come to enjoy on our hot dogs and burgers is not the most popular among consumers, but rather mayonnaise is inching its way to the top. According to Food Dive, “mayo has been doubling its sales with $2 billion a year, compared to $800 million for ketchup.”

    But as we said above, regular mayonnaise isn’t exactly the healthiest of options. According to Campbell, “the [new] spreads have 20 calories and one gram of fat "per serving,” which beats out regular mayo’s 90 calories and 10 grams of fat.

    The spreads are available in three varieties and have gone on sale in over 200 Safeway stores in northern California so far.

    Food Reform for Sustainability and Health Program (FReSH)

    Some of the top food and beverage companies from around the globe have joined arms to launch FReSH—the Food Reform for Sustainability and Health Program.

    What’s FReSH all about?

    According to Food Business News, FReSH "seeks to accelerate change in global food systems ensuring healthy diets for all with food that is produced responsibly within planetary boundaries." How?

    To achieve this ambitious goal, FReSH has brought business and science to work together. It draws on knowledge and efforts from premier research institutions, and is working with the business community to develop successful, high-impact solutions, according to a press release from WBCSD

    A few companies that have joined the program so far are Nestle S.A., Unilever, The Kellogg Company, and many more.
